Your Apartment Spring Cleaning Checklist

It’s to start thinking about your spring cleaning checklist. Winter is over and you are ready to freshen the place up a bit. Everything needs a good once over so create a lis and check things off one at a time to make sure you don’t forget anything. It may be a tedious process, but when you’re done you will think you moved into a new apartment.

Go Room by Room

Go room by room and make a mental note of everything you will need to do. Bedrooms are fairly simple and can be easy to clean if you take things one step at a time. Don’t forget to flip your mattress and wash the baseboards and wall trip. Wipe off your picture frames and wall décor before you dust the furniture or sweep the floors.

Clean From the Top Down

This means sweeping around the top of your walls and cleaning your ceiling fans and door trims first. Dirt and dust fall (or drift) downward. Cleaning from the top down will keep you from getting things dirty as you move around the room. In the kitchen and bathroom, use a strong disinfectant to eliminate extra germs and unfriendly bacteria

Clean the “Hiding Places”

Go through your closets, kitchen cabinets, and cupboards. Get rid of anything that is outdated or that you know you won’t use. Take everything out, wipe them down, and reorganize as you put them away. It can be a real pain to go through the things you intentionally keep out of sight. It’s important to make sure everything goes where it belongs instead of just being stuck in a hole.

Let the Sun Shine In!

Take down your curtains and shake them outside. Vacuum them to remove any dust particles. Wipe down the wood trim and the windowsill. Make sure to open the windows and clean inside the sill as well. Wash your windows to make sure they are sparkling clean before you put your curtains back up.

Don’t Forget the Appliances

Don’t forget to thoroughly clean your appliances inside and out. Get rid of any outdated food or condiments. Your refrigerator is known for hiding things you have probably long forgotten about. Clean the freezer out as well. This will give you a chance to restock the freezer with fresher foods.

Eliminate Clutter

Clutter is the biggest dust catcher of all. Get rid of the piles of old magazines and sort through the stuff on your desk. Eliminating clutter will also get rid of all the hiding places that harbor dust and debris that can collect over time.

Move the Furniture

Rearrange the furniture so you can sweep behind everything. Vacuum all the upholstered pieces and wipe down the wall trip and any smooth surfaces. Before you put the furniture back remove the cushions and look underneath. Sweep there too so that you can get rid of any loose debris that may have fallen between the cushion. Who knows? You may find some change!

Dust Carefully

Dust all of your smooth surfaces, including above your refrigerator, hutches, and anyplace else where you think dust might try to collect. Dusting can be a real pain, but it is the single best way to eliminate dust in your home. It’s also one of the most important of things on your spring cleaning checklist.

Vacuum and Mop the Floors

Vacuum/sweep all your floors, a couple of times at least. Mop your kitchen and bathroom areas. In most cases, it wouldn’t hurt to mop the areas twice. If you want the entire apartment to smell good, add some air freshener beads to your vacuum.

By the time you’re finished putting your spring cleaning checklist together, you may be a little overwhelmed. Take things one at a time and before you know it, you’re apartment will be sparkling clean and looking like you just moved in!
